Entry from: Curio Bay, New Zealand Entry Title: “Pertified Trees and Yellow Eyed Penguins” Entry: “Arrived in Curio Bay yesterday – we had a cool driver called Jason drive us down from dunedin and we stopped and did quite a few nature walks – there were two male sea lions on the beach at Cannibal Bay who delighted everyone on the beach with a bit of a fight although some people decided it best to move well away from them!! There are quite strict rules in Ne Zealand about the wildlife and they are highly protected by law which is great – you can get in trouble for being between a sea lion and the sea both from the law and the angry sea lion whose escape route you are blocking and regulations are even tighter regarding the penguins and the hector dolphins both of which are rare species and whilst interacting with the dolphins isn’t against the law it has to be at the dolphins instigation and you’re not allowed to approach them although 99% of them time they enjoy human company! We also went to a place called Nugget point – it was a nice walk along the cliffs but it was so cold and windy that even the fur seals that we had gone to sea were hiding out from the wind and the rain still it was groovy view!
